Track Description
The Research Methods track welcomes submissions that employ perspectives from Positivist, Interpretive, and Design Science research in the IS discipline. The track is organized around the prevalent research methods used by IS researchers, including experiments and quasi-experiments, surveys, archival data analysis, simulation and modeling, and qualitative research.
Submissions are invited to address issues that arise in applying the various research methods to conduct IS research. For example, in the area of quantitative methods, submissions that deal with such topics as exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, cluster analysis, PLS, LISREL, analysis of variance, and other analytical techniques are encouraged. Specific measurement matters relating to formative vs. reflective constructs, validity, reliability, sample selection biases, goodness of fit, and higher-order factors can also be addressed. Econometric estimation includes issues of endogeneity, heterogeneity, heteroscedasticity, simultaneous equation modeling, seemingly unrelated regression, and maximum likelihood estimation. Qualitative methods can address action research, case studies, ethnographies, and grounded theory. Other methodological issues related to data collection, the role of theory, ethical considerations, the use of software tools for data analysis, and related strategies will also be considered.
