bullett Track Description

Cost considerations, technology changes, upcoming legislation and the need to improve efficiency and TCO all combine to make "Green IT" a critical topic of discussion among corporations looking for ways to improve their ecological footprint while reducing operational costs. Many organizations are in the process of developing strategies for environmental stewardship and efficient energy use. These strategies include initiatives such as reducing overall power consumption, working to extend the useful life of their products and providing equipment recovery and recycling services. There is a realization that IT is critical to driving a green agenda deep into organizations in response to macroeconomic changes, competitive pressures and existing inefficiencies in current IS infrastructure.

This track will explore the pivotal role of IT in green and sustainability initiatives. Topic areas of interest include:

  • Organization-level green IT initiatives such as end user working practices
  • Energy efficient office environments
  • Back office and data centre design and implementation
  • Procurement and supply chains
  • E-Waste
  • Corporate citizenship (including reputation/brand requirements and compliance requirements)
  • Business benefits of Green IT
  • The place of Green IT in IT strategy
  • Societal impacts of Green IT
