Cathy Larson is Associate Director of the Artificial Intelligence Lab and an Associate Research Scientist in the MIS Department, University of Arizona. She is a member of numerous project teams, including, "Securing Cyber Space: Understanding the Cyber Attackers and Attacks via Social Media Analytics," (NSF SES-1314631), and the Community Resource Development project, "Developing a Dark Web Collection and Infrastructure for Computational and Social Sciences" (NSF 0709338). She is also Co-PI on "WMD Intent Identification and Interaction Analysis Using the Dark Web," funded by DTRA. Her areas of interest include archival and test bed development and management, and system and user evaluation. She received her B.A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), with majors in Spanish and Anthropology and a minor in Portuguese. Following graduation she served in the Peace Corps and was stationed in Ecuador. She received her M.S. in Library and Information Science from UIUC. Following the award of her M.S., she went to the University of Iowa Library, to serve first as Media Bibliographer (1987), then as Head of the Library's first Preservation Department (1990), with responsibilities in managing grant-funded microfilming projects. In 1994 she joined the University of Arizona Library as Fine Arts/Humanities Team Leader and became the UA Library's first Data Services Librarian, with responsibilities in planning and implementing data services programs and digital library projects in 1998. She joined the AI Lab in 2003.
